What are Carbohydrates?

Carbohydrates are a Macronutrient.

There are 3 types of carbohydrates (carbs) -

  • Sugars
  • Starchy Foods
  • Fibre both soluble and insoluble.

As soon as you eat carbs there is an enzyme in your mouth which starts breaking down the carbs in preparation of its journey in your body. Unrefined carbs with a high fibre content aren't actually bad for you. It is what your body has got used to during millennia. This is REAL food. However sugar content of product needs to be taken into account.

The problem we have today are the refined carbs which you'll find in bread, pasta, rice and cereals. Of course sugar is a part of this too. Refined carbs are almost void of nutrients and fibre. This is what causes illnesses and especially type 2 diabetes and of course obesity.

The body does NOT need any carbs. There are no essential carbs!

However fibre reduces both blood sugar as well as insulin. Blood sugar can be raised by stress (without food intake) and beef for example (which has no carbs) raises insulin levels.

We will advice you on how to maximize the benefits for weight loss or indeed how to help you with your autoimmune disease when you see or speak with us.

Conclusion Eat real food, unrefined (as nature intended) with a low carb content and high in fibre to maximise nutrients and general health.
